Agent-friendly means an agent can get through your existing site. Agent-native means the site was designed on the assumption that some of its users are software.
What it looks like
- Actions are declared, not inferred — the site tells an agent what it can do here and what each action needs.
- Every meaningful state has an address, so progress can be observed and resumed.
- Results come back as data as well as pixels: confirmation numbers, statuses, errors with codes.
- Automated access has a sanctioned path rather than being something to detect and block.
- Agent journeys are covered by tests the same way human journeys are.
You do not start there
Nobody rebuilds a working site for a traffic segment they have not measured. The sane order is: find out whether agents complete your top journeys today, fix the specific breakages, and only then consider exposing actions natively for the journeys with real volume.
The standards are still forming
Proposals for how sites should declare actions to agents are in motion and none has won. Building your whole strategy on one of them today is a bet. Making your existing journeys reliably completable is not — it pays off under every outcome.
